Open space or separate rooms, what is the best choice?

We just bought an apartment and find ourselves with a kitchen separated from the room, what do we do now? We create an open space or leave the separate areas, but the real question is: the open space is a hackneyed fashion or can still be trendy?
To dissolve this doubt, and find the best answer to this question, a customer GoPillar , the first platform in the world of crowd sourcing for architecture and interior design, she has turned to the more than fifty-four thousand community of designers getting fewer than 14 complete projects and different points of view and international that have produced the most of his works.
At the foot of the podium he was ranked the architect Anna Maria Leo  Italy.

Considering the demands and needs of the customer, the project has an open kitchen and dining, but the idea is to still leave a sliding door to close if there were guests, and so asked a little 'privacy.
In second place on the other hand it is ranked the architect Aleksandra Stakic , Serbia.

Even in this case, the project presents an open solution, but which leaves the possibility for the customer to separate the two spaces with a sliding door. The door, however, in this case, does not close completely leaving glimpse views and communicate the spaces between them, while at the same time a little 'privacy. Inside the kitchen there is also a peninsula with stools, for use of the quick meals.
Finally, the winner was the architect Mirjana Rudan , from Holland. The idea is that of a comfortable and optimized design. The main focus on the issue Open Space yes or no is also achieved in this case with a sliding door that separates the two areas.

In this case, however, the architect has tried to optimize what is already present in the apartment, the kitchen making the fewest changes. The water and gas remain in their native positions, as well as the kitchen door. Spatial planning does not require works of important buildings, except for the removal of the wall between room kitchens and work necessary for the electrical systems of the oven, fridge and lighting.
Thanks to a sliding / folding door and the use of an armchair corner minimizes clutter, leaving space for the living area. A win in this case was the architect's ability to optimize what is already present in the apartment, taking full advantage of its expertise in arranging spaces at best.
With regard to our initial question prevails an answer: the open space is not a fad passed, but surely evolved into this double solution that leaves the choice to the occasion to separate the two areas or leave them both together in a single space great
